Directions: On our class website, click on APUSH, then AP Course Outline. The information in this document comes directly from the College Board’s course description for AP U.S. History and also serves as a basic study guide for the AP exam.

Find the first section labeled “themes.” These are twelve topic areas that the College Board has identified as necessary themes for this course.

For each theme, list at least one major historical event or concept from each of the following time periods we have covered. Write a brief description (or notes) of how the event/concept fits the historical theme.

• Colonial Period (Pre-Columbian to 1763)
• Revolutionary/Constitution Period (1763-1789)
• Founding Period (1789) to 1815
• Antebellum Period, Expansionism and Sectional Crisis (1815-1860)
• Civil War and Reconstruction (1860-1877)
• The Gilded Age (1877-1900)

After this assignment is collected, I encourage you to refer back to the course outline periodically as we discuss new material. This will help in your preparation for the AP exam.
