Civil War Timeline Instructions
AP U.S. History

Your assignment is to construct a timeline of the major political, social and economic events (not battles) of the Civil War period (1861-1865). This should include events from both the Union and Confederacy. You are only required to list the actual event, a formal description is unnecessary.

This timeline should be in time order (not by topic). However, you must indicate whether or not the event is political, social, and/or economic (some may have multiple categories) and whether it occurred in the Union or Confederacy, or both. I encourage you to be creative with this – use colors if you like!

If a particular event is linked to a battle (i.e. Battle of Antietam led to Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation), then state that in your timeline.

The most frequently asked question is…. How should this look?

You are welcome to design the timeline however you like, as long as it shows that you understand the major political, social and economic events of the time period.

This timeline will be recorded in the activity grading weight.
