| General Requests: If you would like a recommendation letter from me, either for college or for a scholarship, I am more than happy to oblige. However, I have the following humble requests (and a few tips, as well): |
| 1. Consider your grade, progress, and participation in my class. Each of you are outstanding individuals; however, I must write an academic recommendation and I must be honest about your actual progress/grade in my class. TIP: Look at all of your classes and decide who could write you the best academic recommendation. |
| 2. Before requesting a recommendation letter, make sure that the college or scholarship requires a "teacher recommendation." IMPORTANT: Download any forms that the college or scholarship requires teachers to sign, complete, etc. I will need to send these with the letter in a sealed envelope. |
|
3. Download the
Bishop Kenny Teacher Recommendation Request Form. This form is
located on our school's website (under "Downloadable Forms").
[Direct Link] I do require that you complete
this form, especially as it helps me write a better recommendation
for you.
TIP: If you plan on applying to several different colleges and universities, fill out items 1, 2, 3, and 5 on the form and make copies. That way, you do not have to re-answer the more generic questions and all you will have to do is write in the name and information of the college or scholarship (including # 4). |
|
4. Submit this
paperwork to me well in advance. (The minimum standard is at
least 10 days in advance, but the more time I have to work on your
letter, the better!) NOTE: Your completed letter of recommendation and any necessary paperwork will be submitted to the Office of Guidance Services. |

- It would
be very wise to begin researching colleges this summer (between
Junior and Senior year). Senior year will be very busy for
you, so get a head start!
- Given that advice, please try to submit recommendation letter requests to me during the summer. I can accept them all year, but I have more time to complete them during the break. Help me out! :-) - The best way to reach me during the summer is by calling the school office (398-7545) or by mail (click here for address). - Consider applying to several colleges and universities. (It is much harder to gain acceptance to the more popular schools, such as the University of Florida. Do apply to these schools, but also have a back-up plan) Best of luck in your college planning process! This is an exciting time of your life, so enjoy it and "apply wisely." |
